Weekends, bank holidays and school holidays are often our busiest times, so you'll be required to work regular weekends - usually one weekend day per week with a day off during the week.

At Oxburgh Estate we have a collection of over 5000 items, ranging from household fittings to the internationally significant Marian Hangings - embroideries created by Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick. Looking after this collection is no small task and our you'll play a key role in sharing our conservation work and collection with visitors.
This romantic 15th century manor house has a real ‘wow’ factor. With its castle-like exterior and panoramic views, Oxburgh Estate's Collection and House team love working in this beautiful environment. It's an exciting time at Oxburgh, as we continue to develop our visitor offer in different ways and share the wonders of the collection and the historic interiors with our many visitors.

What you'll be doing:As part of the Collections and House team, you’ll be responsible for the daily opening of the house, ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. As well as supervising our Collections Assistants, you'll manage our dedicated team of Collections Volunteers and take the lead on recruiting, inducting and training new Collections Volunteers.
You'll assist the Senior Collections and House Officer in the implementation of conservation routines, preventive conservation and the annual deep cleaning programme within the house.
You'll collect and record information during housekeeping cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house and the collection, and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. You’ll enjoy telling visitors about our fascinating history, sharing tales from the past as well as your personal experience of working here. With our volunteer team, you'll help to deliver Conservation in Action activities for visitors that demonstrate our conservation work.
You’ll help to ensure we remain compliant and work safely by carrying out regular workplace inspections and keeping risk assessments and other essential documentation up to date. You’ll also form part of the property duty management team, taking on the role of Duty Manager as part of a rota.
We’re keen to help you develop in the role and will ensure you get the on-the-job training you need, as well as encourage you to take up relevant learning opportunities where available.

- Knowledge of customer care and approaches to optimising visitor enjoyment
- Good team player with day to day line management and supervisory skills
- Good interpersonal skills enabling relationships to be maintained
- Some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure
- Willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors
