We are a 28 bedded acute assessment unit specialising in acute medicine and emergency admissions. It’s a great and interesting time to join our fast paced, thriving unit. We are closely linked to the Emergency Department and can offer experiences through the ‘Hot Floor’ (ED, CDU, SSW & MAU)

You will need the qualifications of a Registered Nurse, and a willingness to undertake further training. MAU is a very supportive environment to develop skills for all registered staff.
**Job Purpose**:
To support the Ward Manager to provide Clinical Nurse Management, leadership and expertise in all aspects of service delivery within sphere of responsibility.
The post holder, with support from the Ward Manager, will ensure that high standards are developed, implemented, and maintained, by ensuring clinical development of all staff within the department.
To lead by example, acting as a role model to all members of the nursing team, leading care teams and creating a positive learning environment.
We are the Major Trauma Centre for the South West Peninsula. 130,000 patients come through our doors yearly, 25,000 of these are children & 700 are major trauma patients. The very distinctive Air Ambulance can be seen flying in & out of Derriford a few times a day, bringing people from all across the region to be treated.

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**
1. To provide clinical expertise and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
1. Responsible for ensuring effective and appropriate educational support for all staff
2. To provide deputise and support for the Ward Manager.
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs and setting standards by:
- Organising the department team to provide individualised patient care by utilising skill mix appropriately within the available resources in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Ensuring staff work within national and locally agreed policies and procedures.
- Assisting in the compilation, implementation and evaluation of philosophies of care, ensuring support for the patient and his/her family and all staff members.
- Assisting in the implementation of policies such asEssence of Care, as per Trust/National guidelines
- Developing programmes of education for all staff and ensuring best utilisation of educational resources.
- Effecting change in order to meet changing patient need.
- Ensuring all staff are appraised annually with appropriate reviews.
Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring high standards and safe practice are
**maintained by**:
- Teaching staff to understand their responsibilities e.g. environmental cleanliness, maintenance and use of all equipment within clinical setting
- Monitoring incidents, accidents and complaints and participating in corrective action and the monitoring of outcomes.
- Adhering to the guidelines of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Utilisation of Trust Risk Assessment documentation, to ensure that Health & Safety / Clinical risk issues are identified / actioned in the ward area.
