We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 5/6 who has proven post registration demonstrable experience to join our team as a permanent Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on Marlborough Ward. An enthusiasm for the speciality of acute care of the elderly is essential, and a teaching/assessing qualification and evidence of post basic study are desirable. Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification. Responsibilities To be responsible for organising and leading teams of nursing staff within a clinical setting. To be recognised as a clinical expert within the post holder's particular care environment, and providing clinical advice. To be responsible for meeting the NMC requirements in line with the Code of Professional Conduct for their scope of responsibility. To lead by example, demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the nursing team. To act as deputy to the nominated ward manager on all aspects of management and governance. To manage patient flow, working with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team to pro‑actively manage the admission and discharge process. To maintain a safe working environment, ensuring high standards and safe practice are upheld. To ensure that Trust, Divisional and Directorate Policies and Procedures are carried out correctly, including compiling off‑duty rotas, managing staff attendance, providing appraisals and supporting recruitment, selection and retention. To promote teamwork and inter‑personnel relationships, attend Sisters Meetings, organise Ward Meetings, participate in Divisional and Directorate forums, and play an active role in the integration of Patient and Public Involvement. To facilitate staff development including conducting annual appraisals, meeting PREP requirements and participating in educational programmes. To keep knowledge current, engage in research and clinical audit, and collaborate within a multi‑disciplinary team. Qualifications & Requirements Essential Demonstrable experience with a similar role. Demonstrable experience in a secondary care setting. Demonstrable leadership skills. NMC Registered. Assessor Course or willingness to attend. Specific post basic qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience relevant to the area of clinical practice. Good organisational skills. Ability to analyse and evaluate information. Ability to work collaboratively. Desirable Previous demonstrable experience in a similar role. Previous demonstrable experience in a leadership capacity. Degree in Health related subject. Leadership qualification. Proven knowledge in Specialist area of HCE.
