**The Background**
We are recruiting for a **Employee Relations Manager** to join a leading London university on a contract basis to to support with the 130 HR professionals, working closely alongside our eleven academic faculties and our eight professional servicesdivisions to understand and collaborate on their priorities, opportunities and challenges. The Employee Relations team provides strategic expertise on employee relations (ER) and employment policy matters across UCL, and owns the central relationship with the unions. The Employee Relations team is rapidly growing and the Employee Relations Managerwill work in conjunction with the team of ER professionals to ensure that UCL's treatment of employees is fair, respectful and consistent with the university's policies and values, and act as a source of expertise for the delivery of effective ER solutions.There is currently a hybrid working model of office working and working from home.

**Main purpose of the job**
- Work with the Director of Employee Relations on the roll out of the UCL ER strategy to develop a positive ER climate.
- Provide effective and timely guidance, advice and support in order to resolve formal cases, in a way that drives a positive working environment.
- Ensure fair and consistent delivery of employment policies.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Work with the Director of ER to develop and deliver the UCL ER strategy.
- Manage a number of cases at any one time (capability, disciplinaries, grievances, tribunals, terminations, end of probation), any of which may be complex and highly sensitive, and coordinate the case management process, looking for possibilities to resolvethe matter informally, where appropriate.
- Ensure that resolutions are timely, fair and consistent with UCL policies, and achieve a satisfactory outcome for UCL whilst taking into account commercial factors such as risk of compensation and reputational damage.
- Work with the Heads of HR and HR Business Partners on local ER matters and on engagement strategies, identifying any ER trends and recommend proactive interventions to minimise risk.
- Lead case work with the UCL Legal team on employment tribunals and high risk cases and claims.
- Work with the Employment Policy Team to ensure that UCL HR policies, processes and guidance notes are fair, transparent and easy to understand and implement.
- Train and coach Line Managers on ER and engagement matters in conjunction with the HR Business Partnering team.
- Line management responsibility for an ER Administrator
- Develop and deliver ER specific training.
- Contribute and be a part of a high performing team to continuously improve our ways of working, while delivering outcomes.
