We are looking for an Environmental Lead to help us find answers to some of our industry’s bigger long-term challenges.
Do you have a strong technical background in environmental assessment, consents for major infrastructure, and an understanding of the relevant regulatory, social, political, and environmental drivers that could affect Severn Trent?
Are you experienced in building effective working relationships with others from a range of organisations?
Well, if you are, read on.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
This is a great opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure projects and other major capital projects, making a significant contribution to developing future water resources, for our region and beyond.
More about the environmental workstream:
- Led by the Environment and Water Resources Lead, the SRO Environment Team sits within our Chief Engineer directorate and is integral to Severn Trent’s SRO programme. This SRO Environment Team drives environmental performance across the SRO programme. We work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams with regulators, internal partners, specialists, and consultants to ensure that best outcomes for the environment are incorporated into the design for the SRO projects.
- Key Responsibilities of an Environmental Technical Lead include:
- Lead the delivery of the environmental investigations for one or more of the SRO projects.
- Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team to define the environmental scope and timelines required to enable the SROs to progress through each gate.
- Procure, manage and contribute to the environmental and technical work packages being delivered by consultants for the SROs.
- Building trust with regulators and stakeholders to ensure a no surprises approach to our environmental investigations and help deliver the required outcomes for the environmental investigations.
- Work with technical experts inside and outside Severn Trent in order to get the best outcome for the SROs.
- Following cross
- company procurement guidance to procure work packages.
- Prepare and assure environmental input to the regulatory gate papers and other submissions to RAPID.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Experience of collaborative working with consultants, engineers, project managers, other water companies, stakeholders and regulators.
- Knowledge of relevant water and environmental legislation in the UK and awareness of potential future changes.
- Experience of Stakeholder Management as you’ll need to build trusting relationships with our environmental and water quality regulators and stakeholders.
- Understanding of the relevant regulatory, social, political and environmental drivers that affect Severn Trent and the SRO projects.
- An experienced and engaging environmental professional, who takes pride in their work, embraces curiosity, has courage to lead and shows care to all those around.
- A successful track record of delivering environmental investigations in high performing teams, preferably, though not essentially on major infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical background in environmental assessment and modelling (e.g., EIA/ SEA, HRA/WFD environmental permitting, hydrology, ecology, natural capital, water transfers), with experience in guiding and appraising work delivered by consultants to ensure it meets our requirements.
- Ability to influence the development of the SROs at all stages of project delivery through feasibility, design and consent
- Ability to review, interpret and critically analyse reports and information provided by others in order to inform project decisions, communicate key messages to internal teams, external parties and senior management, delivering best for the environment outcomes.
- Strong leadership skills, including project management experience including programming and budget control.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams within and beyond Severn Trent, demonstrating commitment to excellence and delivery better environmental outcomes throughout.
- Strong time management skills, with a proven ability to successfully deliver high quality work on multiple commitments under pressure.
- Operating as a senior member of the SRO Environment Team, with an ability to manage, direct and develop junior colleagues
Desirable:
- Professional chartership - or clear path to achieving chartership
- Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.
- We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care
