Engineering - Clerk of Works

Reporting into our Technical Infrastructure Manager, the Clerk of Works will maintain and enhance the physical infrastructure of our organisation. They’ll develop and maintain site inspection and snagging lists, feeding back to Project Managers and Sponsors to ensure standards are maintained and technical specification are adhered to. They will ensure that the quality and progress of all Infrastructure and Engineering projects meet the highest standards.
This role directly contributes to the operational efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability of our facilities. The ideal applicant will have a formal qualification in construction management, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with the knowledge and experience of working within the construction industry and in-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods and regulations.
**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Facilitate clear and consistent communication between all stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, and project teams, to ensure alignment of objectives, resolve disputes, and maintain effective project coordination.
- Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with the approved plans, specifications, and regulatory building codes.
- Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship, ensuring that all aspects of the construction meet the required standards.
- Identify, gather evidence, and report any issues, or non-compliance with the design and specifications, to the project management and design teams.
- Identify opportunities for improvements or changes to plans or designs to enhance the quality or functionality of the project.
- Ensure site adherence to all health and safety regulations, including risk assessments, documentation, and proactive monitoring to prevent accidents and violations, and liaise with site management to improve safety procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive project records, including progress, issues, meetings, correspondence, defect schedules, and O&M manuals, and provide regular written reports to project teams on key issues and progress.
- Engage and utilise the knowledge and experience of the SME’s as required for advice and support as appropriate.
- Monitor project timelines and assist in identifying any potential delays or risks to project completion.
- Take part in project handovers after completion to ensure any outstanding issues are closed out and new equipment and services are fit for purpose.
- Ensure that all work complies with local building codes, regulations, and any other legal requirements.
- Ensure all relevant project specifications are adhered to and complied with as appropriate.
- Monitor adherence to environmental and sustainability standards.
**PERSONAL SPECIFICATION**
**Essential**
- Formal qualification, in construction management, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (e.g., HNC/HND or degree).
- Demonstrable, knowledge, and experience of working in the construction industry, with an In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and regulations.

**Desirable**
- Membership of a professional body such as the Institute of Clerk of Works (ICW), Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) or Chartered Institute of Building. (CIOB)
- ISOH Managing Safety.
- Previous airport experience or working in a similar role within a large multi-functional, fast-paced environment.
- Financial understanding and budgeting experience.
