**What we’re looking for**: Sense Education is looking for an enthusiastic and caring Autism Support Assistant to join a vibrant school in Whitehaven. **The role** No two days are the same - and that’s what makes it so rewarding. You’ll be supporting amazing young people with autism and a range of additional needs, helping them communicate, regulate, and take part in a rich, hands-on learning experience.
From exploring the outdoors and building life skills, to getting involved with creative, sensory activities
- you’ll play a big part in helping pupils feel safe, understood and empowered.
Your day-to-day might include:
- Supporting with communication and social interaction
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and build confidence
- Encouraging independence through life skills and routines
- Joining in with outdoor learning and sensory play
- Sharing snack and lunch times together, supporting social learning
You’ll often work 1:1 or in small groups, forming meaningful connections and watching pupils grow in confidence day by day.
**The ideal person**
- Experience supporting individuals with SEND (children or adults)
- Background in care, health and social care, childcare or education
- A relevant qualification (Level 2/3 TA, Care, Health & Social Care, etc.)
- A calm, upbeat and patient personality
- Willingness to learn about alternative communication techniques (training provided)
- A team player who brings positivity and empathy into the classroom
