**Teaching Assistant - Autism Support**

We are currently looking for a compassionate and reliable **Teaching Assistant** to join a dedicated specialist provision in **Whitehaven**, supporting a pupil with Autism. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

**The Role**

In this rewarding position, you will provide **1:1 support** to a pupil with Autism, both in the classroom and during individual sessions. You will assist with delivering personalised, creative lessons and help manage behaviour in a calm and nurturing way.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Supporting a pupil with Autism on a 1:1 basis during class activities and independent work
- Collaborating with the class teacher to deliver tailored, engaging learning experiences
- Using alternative communication tools such as **PECS** or **Makaton** (training available)
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Assisting with learning journals and recording daily progress
- Contributing to a safe, consistent, and inclusive classroom environment

We’re looking for someone who brings patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude. You may come from education, care, youth work, or have personal experience supporting someone with additional needs.

You will ideally have:

- Experience working with children or adults with Autism or additional needs (personal or professional)
- A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour and communication
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- An understanding of Autism or a willingness to learn (Autism Awareness or TA qualifications a bonus, but not essential)
- A commitment to supporting pupils' wellbeing and learning

This specialist SEND provision is designed to meet the complex needs of its students through a tailored, child-centred approach. The school features **sensory spaces**, **therapy rooms**, and a strong multi-disciplinary team who work collaboratively to create a nurturing and structured environment.

**Hours and Schedule**

Monday to Friday, 8:45am - 3:30pm; no weekends
