**Job summary**:
This is an exciting time to join Companies House Our aim at Companies House is to be the best registry in the world. We’re an Executive Agency of The Department of Business and Trade. We maintain the public register of companies for the UK and are world leaders in corporate transparency. The register is available online and can be accessed by anyone free of charge. Information on the register helps individuals and businesses make effective decisions. There are close to 5 million companies on the register, excluding those in the process of dissolution and liquidation. We incorporate over 800,000 new companies every year.

We are currently undertaking an ambitious programme of organisational transformation, underpinned by legislative reform and the introduction of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. The Act is making huge changes to how Companies House operates, with more changes being phased in over the next few years.

The legislation includes measures that:

- Ensure information on the register is more reliable and accurate
- Increase corporate transparency
- Help to tackle fraud, money laundering and other illicit activity
- Support economic growth and ease of doing business
- Amend our financial reporting systems to reflect advancements in digital technology

As a policy advisor, you’ll have an important part to play in helping to deliver our vision for the future. We need people with strong analytical and communication skills, who can work collaboratively to develop and explain policy and deliver legislative change. You will play a key role in supporting the development of secondary legislation and its implementation, working closely with colleagues, our stakeholders and partners.

**Job description**:
As a Policy Advisor you will be:

- Working closely with The Department of Business and Trade, other government departments and stakeholders to develop policy and deliver legislative change.
- Taking ownership of specified workstreams, working closely with colleagues to influence, develop and communicate polices.
- Helping to analyse and implement legislative requirements that may impact us.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Providing policy advice and support on projects relevant to the team, also during meetings with different business areas.
- Drafting policy papers for consideration.
- Drafting initial responses in respect of Ministerial and Chief Executive correspondence.

**About the team**:
We are a fun, friendly and inclusive team, that works in the Strategy, Policy and External Communications Directorate. We organise team social events throughout the year and have a particular commitment to staff wellbeing. The team are currently working through the legislative reforms that we are implementing over the coming few years, underpinning Companies House’s wider transformation programme for the future.

The reforms include:

- Greater powers for Companies House to query, reject and remove information from the company register;
- Identity verification;
- Changes to Companies House fees;
- Accounts reforms and the software only filing;
