The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of School, Regional Postgraduate Dean, local Educators and the Faculty Support Team to produce doctors who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.

The Training Programme Director will support in the co-ordination, delivery and direction of the specialty training programme as well as contribute to the overall PG School of Surgery Training Programme in NHS England across the West Midlands.

The Training Programme Director will ensure that national standards, determined by the Royal Colleges, are adhered to and national and NHS England policies in Training are implemented. They will ensure standards for training and that each trainee is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences, which will enable them to gain the capabilities necessary for full registration and completion of the specialty curriculum.

The Training Programme Director will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

The post would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced educational supervisor aiming to further develop their educational portfolio.

This post would require someone who is able to emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners, demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others.

It is expected that Training Programme Directors continue in clinical practice while fulfilling the role. The posts will be offered for 3 years in the first instance with satisfactory annual appraisal, with the option of extending for a further 3 years if mutually agreed.
