East Midlands Airport, United Kingdom Friends of the Earth - UK Full time

**Friends of the Earth are recruiting a consultant (3 days per week over the next 2 months) to cover the role of Youth Campaign Coach on our My World My Home programme.**

Over the past 6 years, Friends of the Earth has run a successful campaign leadership building programme with diverse young people in Further Education colleges across England and Wales. The programme, My World My Home, recruits and supports teams of young people to take their first steps in building community-based power and leading their own environmental-justice focussed campaigns.

The young people we work with often face marginalisation and they are all new to campaigning and learning about environmental justice. Following our one-year programme our alumni have gone on to become spokespeople in national media, the Welsh Government and the UK Parliament, they have led their own further campaigns and they have become involved with national youth movements for environmental justice.

As a Youth Campaign Coach you will be responsible for delivering our programme in 2 colleges in the East Midlands (Nottingham College and West Nottinghamshire College, Mansfield), leading face-to-face training and workshops with young people and supporting them as a group and 121 to build their skills and deliver their campaign actions.

A background in Youth Work or youth campaigning and a working understanding of the causes and impact of marginalisation (particularly that experienced by racialised, working class and disabled youth) will be essential for this role. Knowledge of community organising approaches would also be helpful.

**Key responsibilities**
- To coach and guide course participants in the development of environmental justice projects using community organising techniques.
- To maintain relationships with relevant college staff and support course participants to engage positively with them where needed. Work together to recruit new students to the programme if required.
- To act as a contact point and facilitator for course participants to access further expertise and support from relevant staff within Friends of the Earth.
- To support course participants to produce required evidence of completion of digital badge awards where relevant
- To work with others in project team to develop alumni relationship and pathways for course graduates to ensure continued engagement in work for social change.
- Weekly travel to each college you work with to provide face-to-face support, training and coaching.
- Any other tasks required to meet the needs of the contracted role.

**Role information**
- Hours: Approximately 21 hours per week, or 3 days.
- Salary: up to £250 per day, depending on experience and skill level.
- The consultant will be line-managed by the Further Education Programme Manager and be based within the Youth and Families team.
- The role would be suited to somebody who already works in a freelance capacity or who is looking for a short-term contract. People in existing full-time roles should not apply.
- This is a consultancy post, so the consultant would have need to organise their own tax contributions.

**How to apply**

You may be invited to attend an informal interview on Friday 21st October, and you will need to be available to start on Wednesday 26th October. If you have not heard back from us by the start date, please assume that you have not been successful on this occasion.

**Person specification**
- Experience of supporting groups of marginalised young people (preferable 16-24 year olds) to devise and lead their own campaigns.
- Demonstrable understanding of social and/or environmental injustice and intersectional campaigning.
- Understanding and analysis of structural barriers to participating in environmental and social justice campaigning for marginalised groups.
- Understanding and experience of movement building events and activities that bring people together.
- Ability to organise yourself and others to work effectively under pressure and in an unstructured environment.

**Desirable**
- Experience of working within Further Education
