Defra Investigation Services (“DIS”) are a small team of 20 people located across a number of Defra sites comprising a team of HEO investigators, two Senior Investigation Officers, a Central Support team, and a Digital Forensic Team accredited to ISO 17025 standards.
DIS is part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (“Defra”) and plays an important role in enforcing the regulatory framework of the department and most of its executive agencies and arm’s length bodies. DIS use the CPS as their prosecuting authority and conduct criminal, regulatory and sensitive internal investigations on behalf of the Defra group including the Animal & Plant Health Agency, the Forestry Commission, the Rural Payments Agency, and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. DIS are committed to maintaining the highest standards possible and work to the Cabinet Office Counter Fraud Investigation Standards.
**Job description**:
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Manage your case work on a digital case management system.
- Work within the DIS investigation framework and comply with legal standards.
- Maintain your AFI accreditation status on FISS by undertaking CPD as necessary.
- Research legislation.
- Produce investigation plans to deliver client and managerial objectives.
- Liaise with the referring client in respect of evidence gathering and timetables.
- Be effective and proactive in client relationship management.
- Gather the evidence identified to meet the requirements of the investigation plan.
- Manage the JARD records.
- Conduct searches of premises in which you might be expected to lead a small team.
- Produce high quality reports for management and the client.
- Prepare case files for prosecutors.
- Manage CPIA disclosure responsibilities.
- Comply with data management requirements under DPA 2018 and UK GDPR.
- Contribute towards the management of the DIS ARIS budget.
- Take part in project work when requested.
