Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

Bodmin, United Kingdom Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you looking for on-the-job training to develop your skills as a psychological therapist? Do you share our CARE values (Compassionate services, Achieving high standards, Respecting individuals, Empowering people)? Then come join us as a CBTp (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for people with Psychosis) Trainee (Band 6).

It is an exciting time to join Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as we invest substantially in our adult community mental health services to enhance our offer of psychological care.

If you are not already based in Cornwall, it is a fantastic place to live and work, with beautiful natural landscapes, stunning beaches, surfing, sailing and other outdoor pursuits and a relaxed, laid-back pace of life. There are excellent development opportunities for psychological professionals, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch for an informal conversation about how we can support your career aspirations.

Post holders will work in our secondary care mental health services to provide CBT interventions three days a week whilst studying at the University of Exeter on the other two days each week (there will also be some block weeks of training). Applicants are expected to commit to all training dates to ensure they meet the minimum training standards and course attendance requirements. The intensive training will equip the post holder to provide a CBT service to clients with psychosis and bipolar presentations, for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.

Upon successful completion and award of the University of Exeter qualification, you will be offered a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (Band 7) post with the service where you completed your training.

We are recruiting to five training positions in the following Integrated Community Mental Health (ICMHT) and Early intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services:

- West Cornwall ICMHT
- Mid Cornwall ICMHT
- East Cornwall ICMHT
- West Cornwall EIP
- East Cornwall EIP

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Just over 532,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.

For full information of the roles and responsibilities of this role, please see the attached job description/Person Specification, functional requirements and further information.
