**Job Description**:
We are looking to hire a Head of Editorial, sitting within F1000. This exciting and innovative position will be working closely with the Director of Operations, Researcher Services as well as F1000’s Managing Director and as part of the Senior Management Team. The role will ensure that the prepublication checks, production and peer review processes on the F1000 publishing venues are carried out efficiently and to a high standard, providing authors, reviewers, and readers with the support needed to ensure an excellent service and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
This role requires demonstrable experience of managing, developing and retaining high-performing teams, strong resource prediction and management skills. It also requires building and refining effective workflows to ensure processes are highly scalable and effective, and handling issues around publication and research ethics. You must have an active interest in open data and open research, as well as in general publishing and related matters.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Own the editorial strategy for F1000’s publishing venues, ensuring a high-quality editorial and production service whilst maintaining fast turn-around times.
- Work with the Researcher Services Operations team, F1000 Managing Director and Senior Management Team, and other internal T&F and F1000 teams on projects across the business to deliver on corporate objectives and to actively contribute to the evolution of editorial and production practices across T&F.
- Contribute as appropriate to the development of new products and business propositions to ensure F1000 remains at the cutting edge of scholarly communication
- Contribute as a member of the F1000 Senior Management Team and make recommendations on issues relating to their area of expertise as required.
- Lead, performance manage, and develop a team of Editorial and Production Managers for F1000, fostering a culture of high-level performance, motivation, quality, efficiency, and innovation in the team helping to encourage new ideas and constructive feedback.
- Contribute to the setting of the F1000 organizational culture as well as the broader Researcher Services culture, acting as an ambassador both internally and externally and leading by example.
- Provide continuous review and adjustment of the publishing framework and editorial processes of the F1000 publishing venues in response to the requirements of different research groups.
- Oversee structured workflows, systems, tools, and practices, and ensure regular reviews, both for within the team and in relation to working with other relevant teams, to identify opportunities to ensure a highly efficient and high-quality process that is easily scalable, and can be easily flexed to successfully manage fluctuations in content volume.
- Maintain a deep knowledge of open research developments (including in open peer review) to ensure internal teams and external stakeholders can be advised on best current practice.
- Ensure a good documentation of processes and best practice that can be applied for the different F1000 publishing venues.
**Qualifications**:
- Thorough knowledge of editorial processes and systems
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Experience of line managing an efficient and effective team
- Knowledge and experience of the scholarly publishing industry, and of Open Access publishing and research ethics
- Experience leading change and transformation initiatives, and driving strategies that foster continuous evolution and improvement
