Design Researcher

**About The Role**:
As a Design Researcher at TPXimpact, you’ll be responsible for exploring and gaining a deep understanding of user and organisational behaviours and needs in order to support and transform the delivery of public and non-for-profit policy and services. This includes everything from defining the research objectives to using the most appropriate methods from secondary, primary and participatory action research, even customising your own to develop actionable insights and measure the success of design solutions.
Currently, we’re solving problems with a range of clients from social care services to housing and digital land planning, from improving health services to education and building capability and design maturity in central government departments.
On client projects, you’ll work in delivery and policy teams to facilitate a deep understanding of the people and communities that use services and the organisations that deliver them. You’ll work as part of multidisciplinary teams, with designers to policy specialists and developers and collaboratively with other TPXimpact teams, from org design and change to community and political engagement. Within TPXimpact, you’ll be part of the Design research team and contribute to how we define and iterate our community of practice with the Head of Design Research.
We need more talented researchers to join our team who have a high level of curiosity to learn from a spectrum of perspectives and want to create a positive impact through their work.
We’re looking for people who might be seeking that next level in their career or at a similar level and interested in expanding their skills and domain experience somewhere new.
What you’ll do
**As a Design Research at TPXimpact, you will be**:
- Problem framing : framing assumptions or hypotheses to prioritise and work with.
- Secondary research: making sure that TPXimpact and client teams learn about the right things by consolidating and building on existing knowledge, desk research and data analysis.
- Designing and planning creative research : including sample design, recruitment, screeners, field guides and process management.
- Primary research (qualitative and quantitative): using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods with individual users, staff or stakeholders to understand people, behaviour, context, culture and ideas.
- Participatory and community research : research with people and places to support community organising and action. Developing relationships with organisations and individuals to be part of a bigger network of assets, strengths and partnerships.
- Creating actionable research insights: Using analysis and synthesis methods, linking qualitative to quantitative data and thinking about systems-level and behavioural patterns and frameworks to develop significant insights.
- Evaluation and impact measurement: working with teams to ensure robust impact measurement and theories of change throughout a design process, making sure solutions meet the needs of users and stakeholder outcomes.
- Communicating research: making research findings engaging, relevant, impactful and actionable for design through a variety of formats such as insights, decks, white papers, stories, videos, exhibits, etc.
- Identifying opportunity areas and bringing people together through research: enabling teams to contextualise, refine and prioritise concepts and requirements. Building shared understanding and knowledge that can be referred back to throughout a design process.
- Mentoring and capability transfer: guiding more junior TPXimpact and client researchers and practice sharing across the organisation and with client teams.
