**Job summary**:
Our buildings are inter-generational assets and the Safer and Greener Buildings (SGB) group in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) is responsible for the way that we shape, regulate and repair our built environment. Our work affects the entire population: the financial interests of hundreds of thousands; the health of major parts of the economy; and the legacy we leave subsequent generations. A programme of work was established following the Grenfell Tower fire to make sure that high-rise buildings are safe, and that residents feel safe in them, now and in the future.

Correspondence Officers provide a critical function in pulling together our work and translating it into clear, robust and high-quality correspondence products for a range of important stakeholders including the Secretary of State, other Ministers and senior officials as well as wider interest groups.

**Job description**:

- As a Correspondence Officer your core role will be to draft replies to Ministerial and public correspondence, and support policy teams as required. You will:
- Prepare responses to correspondence from MPs, key stakeholders and members of the public about building safety issues and other issues for which SGB has responsibility.
- Decide which correspondence can be answered using standard lines and which requires bespoke policy input, commissioning and monitoring this input from policy teams where necessary.
- Self and peer review draft replies, ensuring responses are of the right quality (in terms of content, tone and accurate use of English).
- Identify and monitor key themes of correspondence.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with DLUHC’s central correspondence team and with policy teams.
- Provide support, as necessary, to the wider team.

**Person specification**:

- Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Attention to detail, especially when working in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Ability to think strategically to identify gaps and systemic issues.
- A flexible and inclusive approach to delivery.
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a policy environment.

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Making Effective Decisions
- Managing a Quality Service
- Working Together
- Delivering at Pace

**Benefits**:

- Learning and development tailored to your role
- An environment with flexible working options
- A culture encouraging inclusion and diversity
- A Civil Service pension with an average employer contribution of 27%
