We are offering an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Health Practitioner to join our Port Health team at Southampton City Council.

As well as being a vibrant & diverse city on the edge of the beautiful New Forest, Southampton is one of the major ports in the UK operating 364 days a year.

Our experienced team deliver a high standard of service, undertaking a range of statutory duties to safeguard public health. We are responsible for the enforcement of environmental, public and animal health controls, inspection and clearance of imported food and the inspection of merchant and passenger vessels within the Southampton Port Health authority area.

We are seeking a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner who holds a certificate of registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or equivalent, who can demonstrate competencies in food sampling and inspection work.

You will be working between two locations - our main office at City Depot in Southampton and at our Border Control Post within the dock estate. A full comprehensive driving licence is essential in order to travel and carry out everyday duties and visit other locations within the Port Health district.

You must have a certain degree of fitness due to the physical nature of the job and able to work independently and as part of a team to deliver the Council’s objectives.

There is an established shift pattern in place. Every six weeks you will be required to work a 6-day rota from 1300 - 2100 during the week and 0800 - 1600 on Saturdays. You will be required to be on standby (out of hours) duty throughout this work period.
