**Foreign investment**

This is an exciting time to work on foreign investment promotion and policy in government. Foreign investment plays an important role in the UK economy. Whilst only 4% of local business units in the UK were foreign owned in 2020, they were responsible for 36% of UK business turnover and employed over 5 million people. Investment will be essential to delivering the government’s wider objectives including levelling up, clean growth, innovation, and job creation.

**Investment Promotion and Performance Insights**

Investment Promotion and Performance Insights (IPPI) is an inter-disciplinary team that monitors and analyses DIT’s investment promotion performance, and undertakes analysis to inform continuous improvements to the operational delivery model for investment services. We are a recognised team in our area, frequently consulted and engaged with other government departments, including No.10.

To give you a taster of some of our work:

- Publishing Official Statistics for inward investment in the UK
- Analysing data behaviours and evaluating its impact on delivery of investment promotion
- Surveying foreign investors and analysing their drivers for investing, and their satisfaction with DIT services

As a leader within IPPI, you will work across multiple stakeholders outside the team, shaping and developing relationships with stakeholders in the strategy and policy area, and also across our global and domestic networks.

**Job description**:

- Line management of one HEO.
- Ownership of development, and continuous improvement, of behavioural analysis identifying opportunities and challenges in the operational model across all DBT’s investment promotion activities.
- Ownership of the quality assurance process of all DIT investment success claims, understanding and managing the definitions and requirements supporting consistent data validation.
- Continuous development of the quality assurance process.
- Act as liaison person for the development and adjustment of digital systems supporting the recording of investment data and investment data analysis and evaluation.
- Work collaboratively with the Investment Strategy and Operations division, to share insights from our analysis and insights.
- Frequently work across the IPA division to deliver and strengthen the monitoring and evaluation framework for investment promotion delivery.

**Hybrid Working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

**Person specification**:
**Essential Criteria**
- Experience in data and process analysis.
- Experience in behavioural analysis.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experienced in coding language for data manipulation tools (R and SQL).

**Qualifications**:

- High numeracy: You must possess a 2:1 or higher numerate degree, or a 2:2 with relevant work experience or postgraduate qualification.
- Highly numerate degrees include: Astrophysics, Data Science, Decision Science, Econometrics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operational Research, Physics and Statistics.
- Other numerate degrees, such as Accounting, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Economics, Finance, Geography, IT, Management, Management Science, Psychology, Sociology, Social Sciences and Systems Science, may be accepted if 50% or more of the modules are considered highly numerate.
