**Department of Politics**:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an ESRC-funded project entitled _The 'Comfort Women' and the Silence Breakers: Memorialising Sexual Violence as Feminist Politics_, headed by Dr Harriet Gray (PI). The project is concerned with the memorialisation of sexual violence across what feminists have termed the 'continuum of violence' spanning war and peace, and focuses in particular on six memorial projects in the USA: three dedicated to peacetime sexual violence in the US, and three remembering the 'comfort women' of the Asia-Pacific War. Through generating in-depth, qualitative empirical data about these six research sites, the project will engage with feminist debates on the politics of memory in relation to gender, violence, and (national) identity. Through its collaboration with memorialisation activists, the project also hopes to generate impact in relation to the use of memorialisation as an activist tool. Finally, through an open and explorative project blog, the project will provide space to consider more broadly how public knowledge about sexual violence is produced through cultural products such as art, poetry, memoirs, and television productions

**Role**:

- To conduct research under the supervision of the PI, contributing to achieving the planned outcomes of the project.
- To contribute to researching, writing, and disseminating knowledge.
- To organise and attend project events

**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:

- To conduct research that contributes towards the overall project, under supervision from the PI. Duties to include: undertaking a comprehensive literature review; collection, analysis, and interpretation of newspaper data; writing up of research results; and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities.
- To undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project, including workshop organisation.
- To contribute to the maintenance of the project website, including through the research and writing of blog posts.
- To undertake other activities, as necessary, towards the achievement of the project aims.
- To develop and initiate collaborative working internally and externally, duties to include: the building of internal contacts and participation in internal networks; participation in and identification of external networks in order to share information and identify potential opportunities for collaboration; attendance at and contribution to relevant meetings

**Interview date**:To be confirmed
