**Department**:
The Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York, is looking to appoint a Research Associate to play a leading role in conducting quantitative analysis for the Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration (YH ARC), funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). YH ARC aims to develop research partnerships to address specific health or care issues in the region and to undertake cutting edge health research. The University of York leads the YH ARC Mental and Physical Multimorbidity theme (MPM), addressing complexities and health inequalities arising from coexisting mental and physical health problems. The successful applicant will work with the YH ARC MPM Theme research team to deliver the aims of the programme, to answer research questions and interrogate data, which will inform the interventions to mitigate against the causes and consequences of the health inequality that people with severe mental ill health experience.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research associate who has previously played a leading role using a range of advanced quantitative research techniques and methodologies in a university setting, to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team working on methods to improve the physical and mental health of people with severe mental illness. You will conduct high quality statistical analyses of relevant studies, undertake statistical programming for checking, manipulating, summarising and analysing data, and in the development of research proposals. You will be encouraged to undertake dissemination of your research through publications, seminars and conference presentations and contribute to the identification of possible new areas of research. Previous experience of performing quantitative analyses in software such as R or python is required. The researcher’s skill set should enable them to manage the day-to-day running of the quantitative projects for YH ARC and to liaise with team members, participants, clinicians, and other partners across multiple sites in the University and the NHS. The post offers the opportunity to be part of a large and successful multi-disciplinary Department, renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy relevant research.

The University of York offers flexible working patterns and a number of family friendly initiatives. As a Department we are proud to foster a supportive culture that helps staff and students contribute fully, flourish and excel, to reach their full potential. We embrace equality, diversity and inclusion as well as the values of the Athena SWAN Charter in all our Departmental activities

**Role**:

Key duties will include: the development of research proposals, statistical programming for checking, manipulating, summarising and analysing data, writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations, and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research.

The work will be undertaken with support from other members of the multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of Principal Investigators, Professor Simon Gilbody at the University of York, and Professor Scott Weich at the University of Sheffield.

- Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
- Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
- Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research

This role is available on a fixed term basis for up to 12 months.
