- Devonport Naval Base is the largest Naval Base in Europe. It is a 650-acre site with 15,000 acres of water space, employing 12,000 people on site. The Base is primarily focused on delivering timely deep maintenance to the UK’s submarine fleet. It is also the operating home base for frigates, amphibious, RFA and Strategic RoRo Ships, Royal Marines. It employs more than 10% of Plymouth’s workforce and contributes to 14% of Plymouth’s economy.

Devonport Naval Base is the nerve centre for the Royal Navy in the South West. It supports operations around the globe and provides the ships, submarines, people, and equipment to deliver the UK’s defence policy. Its mission is to meet the support and operating requirements for the Naval Service and UK’s allies, from the South West, reaching worldwide.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
As part of the national endeavour to support ships, submarines of the Royal Navy, UK Defence, NATO and UK Allies, to act as NBCD’s representative for day-to-day management / oversight of all waterfront amenities, facilities and utilities provided to vessels alongside Devonport, or military vessels using the wider Dockyard Port of Plymouth (The Sound).

To be accountable to the Devonport Alongside Services RFA Team Leader for the management and delivery of HMNB(D) support to RFAs and MOD chartered shipping.

To support enact the role of the Devonport Intelligent Customer (IC), in accordance with the IC Handbook (including the IC TORs in that handbook), for - primarily - aspects of support to RFAs and MOD chartered shipping.

Keeping line management informed to advise RFA / MOD chartered shipping Commanding Officers and Senior Officers/managers on Devonport matters that affect their Operational drumbeat.

To articulate the requirement and priority for alongside service delivery to Industry Partners to ensure that Defence and NBCD’s priorities are delivered.

Represent HMNB Devonport at specialist conferences and/or meetings with external organisations. Build and maintain relations within the MOD, and externally, for the benefit of Devonport outcomes.

This is a physically demanding and high tempo job and the post holder will be expected to make frequent visits to ships alongside and in Plymouth Sound. This will include climbing stair ways and ships access ladders / gangways.

To assist Main Office Team when required, with phones, Through the FMSP, and other Defence contracts, to ensure certainty of delivery is routine so ships and submarines get out for operations on time, every time.

Working to DAS6, articulate the day-to-day requirements1 and priority for service delivery to the Industry Partner to ensure that NBC(D)'s Operational priorities are delivered.

To enact the role of a Devonport Intelligent Customer (IC) practitioner on behalf of the MOD as the contracting Authority. To retain adequate resources and technical competence, to set the requirements, understand the contract, monitor, measure and assess whether the deliverables and activities of the Industry Provider meet the requirements of predominantly three key Defence contracts, with respect to Alongside Services.
