**Summary**:

This is an exciting time to join MOD’s evolving and dynamic Internal Communications team. Defence has recently outlined its strategy moving forward until 2030 and internal communications is central to delivering key messages to all personnel.

You will work to support the team to develop high quality campaigns, materials, and activities that engage and inform the diverse mix of Defence employees, and support the delivery of organisational priorities. You will make use of a full range of channels including: intranet content, social media, internal digital platforms, blogs, face-to-face events, video, and management briefs.

You will work closely with your counterparts across the whole of Defence, as well as other parts of Directorate of Defence Communications (DDC) - such as News, External Campaigns, and Strategy/Plans - to coordinate materials and activity.

DDC delivers strategic communications based around robust insight, clear objectives, proactive digital delivery, and dynamic evaluation. Your role will be key to the success of the internal communications efforts across Defence.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

**Job description**:
Accountabilities This role reports to a Senior Communications Officer (IC) within the Directorate of Defence Communications.

You will have experience in a communications discipline such as internal communications, press, PR, marketing, and/or stakeholder communications. You will be able to work flexibly, effectively, and creatively with staff at all levels, sometimes under pressure. You will also have excellent communication skills, written, and oral.

You must possess the Government Communication Service (GCS)/Civil Service behaviours to EO/AIO level. The summary below is not exhaustive and you are advised to examine the full version of the GCS Professional Competency Framework here:

You will support the team in the development of internal communication campaigns, materials, and activities that engage Defence employees and support organisational change, built upon the four ‘Engage for Success’ enablers (vision and leadership; engaging managers; hearing staff voice; and organisational integrity).

You will demonstrate knowledge of internal communication/digital/social media channels and methods, an excellent grasp of the entirety of Defence communications, and will have the confidence and ability to build and maintain good relationships with a wide range of people at all grades and ranks. You should have excellent writing ability and strong interpersonal skills.

Specifically, you are expected to:

- Take a lead role in supporting and enhancing the audience research and insight methods and dashboards for team.
- Evaluate internal communications activity to ensure objectives are met and that leaders understand the business benefits.
- Support the team in delivering and creating content for high-profile internal communications campaigns that support behaviour change.
- Provide high quality strategic advice that is: evidenced; engagement focused; and provides constructive challenge to the department to ensure communication is relevant, necessary, and coherent.
- Champion the use of the most effective tools and channels for reaching the audience, utilising digital tools where appropriate.
- Work on your own annual campaigns to encourage behaviour change.
