The Department of Surgery is looking to recruit a Departmental Safety Officer

The Department of Surgery is one of five departments within the Cluster, with staff and students spread over three floors within Addenbrooke's Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The Health and Safety Adviser will act as the Department's Safety Officer and will provide advice and guidance on matters of health and safety. Collaborating with senior and departmental managers, research scientists, local safety representatives, and support staff to find practical solutions to complex health and safety issues, being responsible to the needs of the research, and enabling a proportionate response to the management of risk.

To ensure the health and safety legislation and university health and safety policies are implemented as well as promoting a positive health and safety culture at all levels.

The role holder will keep abreast of changes in legislation, and using this information will produce and update policies, procedures and general safety arrangements to ensure legal compliance.

The role holder will be expected to write health and safety reports from inspections, site visits, investigations and project proposals and deliver in a timely fashion.

The role will be working on a part time basis for 18.25 hours per week and we are happy to discuss flexibility on working times and days to suit the right applicant.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
