Shipley, United Kingdom Specialist Autism Services Full time

**Skills Mentor (Support Worker)**

Specialist Autism Services are looking for committed and enthusiastic Skills Mentors (Support Workers) to work at our Autism First site in Shipley.

Autism First is a unique service specifically for adults with autism who have additional needs. We provide person-centred support through an autism-specific learning plan that addresses social, physical, sensory and behavioural needs, thereby promoting personal development. We use a range of autism-specific approaches tailored to meet an individual’s needs and abilities. When used, these approaches can alleviate frustration and reduce anxieties, facilitating learning.

As a Skills Mentor your role would be to support our member’s individual learning plans (ILP). Using these autism-specific learning plans, you will work with a progressive model of support that builds social tolerance and communication skills through the use of drama, music, arts and independent living skills, which are then used for practical sessions in the local community. This phased approach towards group involvement leads to increased self-esteem, independence and social inclusion for our members.

**Essential Skills and Experience**:

- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Conditions
- Experience of working or supporting in a care setting
- Able to work on own initiative and as an equal member of a team
- Good IT skills across a wide range of programmes/systems

**To Make an Application**:

- Please note it is not possible for us to give feedback to non
- shortlisted applicants

**Employee Benefits**

Specialist Autism Services wouldn’t be able to deliver our services for our members without our employees. Our employees are a huge part of what makes Specialist Autism Services great. It’s our employee’s dedication to ensuring the progression and development of our members that brings the positive outcomes that we are so proud of.

We pay competitive rates for our sector and regularly monitor local market information to help ensure we continue to be as competitive as we can.

With every 12 months of service up to 5 years we add an additional day of leave to an employee's allowance, meaning after 5 years' service employees receive 33 days’ leave, pro rata.
- **Birthday Leave**

All employees of Specialist Autism Services receive an additional day of leave every year to take for their birthday, allowing you time to celebrate with your family and friends.
- **Sociable Working Hours**

We take into account employees with young families needing to get their children to school in a morning and also the traffic congestion for staff when needing to be at a workplace for 9:00. With that in mind, our working hours for our Skills Mentors (Support Workers) are between the hours of 9:30 and 16:45.
- **Access to an autism specific training and development programme**

The training we deliver has been recognised nationally and is not only delivered to our staff team but to employees of local authorities, the fire service, prison services, to name but a few.
