**Role Purpose**
As part of the Leadership Team the Head of Finance is responsible for providing leadership and expertise, and for the financial management of Beaumond House Hospice Care. This includes ensuring that all financial and technological infrastructure matters are run efficiently, effectively and are fit for purpose. The Head of Finance will also lead on the annual budget setting process, prepare the year end statutory accounts and liaise with the external auditors.
**Main Duties**
**Strategic Leadership and management**
- Work in close partnership with the Chief Executive, Leadership Team (the LT) and Board of Trustees to achieve the aims of Beaumond House, providing reports and statistical data to shape our decision making.
- As a member of the LT, ensure that fellow members are fully briefed on matters relating to finance and advise the LT on the financial impact of decisions made.
- To role model the values of Beaumond House and support the Chief Executive and the LT in maintaining the desired culture of the organisation.
- Draft annual financial statements and supporting papers in line with the Charities SORP, Companies Act and all other relevant reporting requirements.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our finance, infrastructure (IT, connectivity and communication) and facilities processes and policies and propose improvements where necessary to support the changing needs of the organisation.
- Lead on and advise the Board of Trustees through the periodic review and appointment process for Auditors.
- Lead on the periodic review and appointment (where applicable) of Insurance, IT and Communications providers.
- Maintain strong relationships with bankers, auditors and investment managers.
**Finance**
- Oversight of the payroll system and process, and all associated tax and statutory returns ensuring all documentation is completed and held in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensure auto-enrolment and other information is submitted to pension providers to the required deadlines.
- Monitor and manage cashflows to maximise interest receivable.
- Ensure all financial information is accurate and current and that all required internal and external processes, reports, budgets, forecasts, audits and accounts are produced within agreed timescales and to the highest standard.
- Responsible for the production of the monthly management accounts, including commentary.
- Meet with budget holders on a regular basis to discuss income and expenditure vs budget and to facilitate and promote ownership of the numbers.
- Responsible for the completion and submission of the VAT Return ensuring we maximise the amount of VAT reclaimed.
- Take the lead during the annual external audits.
- Work closely with all appropriate colleagues to ensure: completion and submission of Gift Aid claims; accurate and timely information to support funding bids and; effective integration between systems.
**Operational**
- Provide direct line management of Finance Officer and Finance Assistant, including recruitment and performance management.
- Oversee the recruitment and management of volunteers within the finance team.
- Ensure all department staff and volunteers complete mandatory training as required.
- Maintain professional membership and practice continuous professional development.
**Governance**
- Ensure Charity Commission and Companies House information is kept up to date and current.
- Responsible for ensuring activities adhere to all applicable legislation eg. HMRC, Charity Commission, Companies House etc.
**General Duties**
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with your Beaumond House colleagues
- Abide by the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Work within Beaumond House policies and procedures
- Participate in and contribute to team meetings
- Always behave in a professional manner, reflecting and maintaining Beaumond House values
**Person Specification**
**Qualifications and Knowledge**
- Recognised professional financial/accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ACA)
- Significant experience working in a Senior Finance Role
- Knowledge of charitable sector financial management will be preferred
**Experience**
- Statutory accounts preparation for limited companies, including consolidated financial statements
- Knowledge of SORP requirements, Charity Commission and Companies House reporting requirements will be preferred
