HS2 is Britain’s new high-speed railway connecting London and Birmingham. It is the first new intercity railway to be built north of London in more than a century.
At HS2, we offer a range of two-year rotational graduate programmes, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself on the largest infrastructure project in Britain. We have an opportunity available, based in Euston, London in the The Value for Money Team, however travel may be required to other HS2 offices/sites.
The Value for Money Team is the primary source of evidence, analysis, and statistical expertise for HS2 Ltd supporting the scheme through key decision stages.
The team uses analysis to enhance the value of HS2 by:
Providing value-for-money analysis to support the business case for the scheme and helping shape key decisions for HS2;
Enhancing the commercial viability of the procurement and operation of the railway through analysis of key investment and design decisions;
Using analytic insights and economic theory to demonstrate the transformational benefits of HS2 at a regional and national level;
Developing, maintaining, and assuring innovative tools and models to provide a centre of excellence for the analytical capabilities of the organisation; and,
Monitoring and reporting the realisation of the benefits of the scheme through a structured Benefits Management Strategy.
As a Graduate analyst you will be involved in the following;
Delivering high-quality economic analysis to provide the Department for Transport and HS2 Ltd with robust advice to inform key decisions to the agreed scope and deadlines following best practice in quality assurance.
Preparing written materials suitable for senior approval and upward communication, ensuring analysis is practical and targeted, and clearly draws out relevant conclusions;
Proactively build and maintain working relationships with colleagues across HS2 Ltd. and the Department for Transport to ensure decision-making is informed by high-quality evidence and meets requirements.
Communicating analytical findings to key stakeholders, including non-analysts, ensuring that communication styles are adapted to suit the audience.
Working collaboratively with analysts across the Benefits and Analysis Team, contributing to our joined-up evidence base and workstreams; and,
Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.
Rotations will likely involve placements within some of the following:
Benefits and Revenues Modelling Team - estimating the journey time savings and user benefits of the proposed scheme;
Design and Delivery Analysis Team - evaluating the operating costs and commercial opportunities of the scheme;
Benefits & Shareholder Relations Team - monitoring and reporting on how well HS2 Ltd is performing against stated key performance indicators and strategic objectives; and
Sponsorship Team - the Sponsors are the key point of contact between HS2 Ltd and the DfT managing the relationship with our client and stakeholders.
