Advanced Research Assistant

The Hurles group is looking for an enthusiastic and technically skilled Advanced Research Assistant to join an exciting research programme. You will participate in molecular and cellular studies aimed at revolutionizing the genetic diagnosis of developmental disorders including intellectual disability and autism, and characterising the effects of these disorders through cellular models.

About the role:
The role is predominantly lab based and provides an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly and motivated team designing and running experiments, collecting and interpreting data, and developing new techniques and methods. The role is supervised directly by a clinician-scientist in the Hurles group, and is funded through a grant aimed at enabling better diagnostics and empowering more targeted clinical treatment options.

Essential Skills
- Technical Skills:_
- BSc or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline
- Significant understanding of molecular genetics
- Previous experience in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, qPCR, RNA isolation, and library construction
- Experience using cell culture techniques
- High level of computer literacy
- Competencies and Behaviours:_
- Ability to work independently, and show initiative to resolve issues arising while working in a team setting
- Adaptability to troubleshooting new protocols, and willingness to learn new skills
- Good manual dexterity & attention to detail
- Good communication skills
