The Cardiff Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia Haemostasis and Thrombosis provides clinical and laboratory services for patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders regionally and locally across the Bleeding Disorders network for Wales. The Centre is nationally and internationally recognised and is enrolled in a number of ongoing multi-centre national and international clinical trials.
The post holder will work as part of the Haemophilia and thrombosis nursing team with specific responsibility for all nursing activities associated with Clinical Research Trials. They will be a qualified Band 6 nurse experienced in direct patient care, based within the UHW Haematology Directorate. Previous clinical trial experience is an advantage, but full training and clinical support will be provided.
**Responsibilities include**: Participating in the management of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding disorders including patients with thrombosis requiring treatment. Providing information about clinical trials to patients and carers, patient monitoring and collection of accurate and timely data about the effects of treatment and patient quality of life. The post holder will be expected to be proactive in the education of other healthcare professionals about clinical trials and encouraged to prepare research reports and updates for local and national meetings as required.
The post holder will undertake all nursing activities associated with Clinical Trials working alongside the Research Nurse Manager, Haemophilia (Adult, Paediatric, Research) and Thrombosis Clinical Nurse Specialists: Participating in planning, preparation and conduction of Clinical Trials, working closely with the Principal Investigator (consultant Haematologist) and Study Coordinator. Knowledge of relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP/ICH) guidelines adhering to them at all times. Participation in planning, preparation and conduction of Clinical Trials with responsibility for recovery of patient data. Liaising and attending MDT meetings with Haemophilia, ward staff and CNS for Haematology promoting high standards of care. Participation in nursing audit. Performing administration of intravenous and subcutaneous therapies to research participants and blood sampling for pharmacological studies as directed by protocols. Requisition and dispensing Investigational Medicinal Products in accordance with study specific protocols and UHB policy. Working clinically within the Haematology Directorate to maintain clinical skills. Education to relevant health professionals, patients and carers regarding trials demonstrating current knowledge and clinical skills in nursing patients with blood disorders providing support and information. Assisting in general management of Clinical Trials, deputising for the nurse manager where required.
