Apna Ghar is a registered charity dedicated to supporting and integrating ethnic minority girls and women into our local community. With over 35 years of experience, we provide personalized social support, upskilling opportunities, and key skills to some of the most vulnerable ethnic minority groups. Our mission is to empower women and girls to live fulfilling lives of their choosing through compassionate support, community engagement, and capacity building.
Role Overview:
Note: DBS clearance is required prior to commencement.
This post is open to female applicants only as this is deemed a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily running of Apna Ghar Women’s Ethnic Minority Centre, upholding its ethos in line with the charity’s mission statement.
- Manage staff and volunteers, including recruitment, training, supervision, and motivating the team to achieve project outcomes.
- Develop new initiatives and activities in collaboration with the Management Committee, ensuring they meet community needs.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with local organizations, statutory agencies, and community groups.
- Attend local community meetings, representing the Centre and gathering insights to inform service development.
- Develop and oversee funding bids to ensure the sustainability of staff roles, projects, and the Centre’s ongoing operation.
- Liaise with commissioners and partners regarding activities, sessions, and services offered at the Centre.
- Maintain monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate the impact of Centre activities.
- Ensure staff and volunteers are up-to-date with relevant training, including safeguarding, and attend relevant events aligned with project aims.
- Lead on the management of the charity’s customer relationship management system, complying with data protection regulations.
- Contribute to the development of the Centre’s long-term strategy and the charity’s overall growth.
- Prepare and present monthly and annual reports to the Management Committee, covering all activities and project progress.
- Act as a positive and motivational leader within the Centre, engaging with the community and acting as an outreach ambassador.
- Participate in Committee Meetings, presenting reports as required, and attend occasional evening meetings and local authority/partner organization events.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required by the Management Committee to support the charity’s mission.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience working within voluntary, charity, or community/youth sectors.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
- Experience working with ethnic minority communities, with an understanding of cultural sensitivities.
- Ability to speak languages such as Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, or Hindi is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with community organizations.
- Commitment to values of compassion, community connection, and supporting ethnic minority women and girls.
- Safeguarding adults and children training compliant with local authority standards.
Special Conditions:
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, including attending Committee meetings and local authority/partner meetings.
- On-site working with occasional travel to community events and meetings.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and take responsibility for the Centre's daily management.
