You will play a pivotal role in coordinating, supporting, and monitoring the Newham Transformation and Improvement Portfolio. This includes overseeing the delivery of the LGA Peer Challenge Action Plan and the wider transformation initiatives embedded in our Transforming Newham for the Future Plan, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and strategic goals. In this role, you will lead the development of a strategic portfolio framework, manage the portfolio office, and ensure robust governance, tracking, and assurance mechanisms are in place. You will work closely with senior leadership to provide visibility of the portfolio pipeline and drive decision-making aligned with strategic objectives. Key to your success will be your ability to communicate complex information effectively, negotiate with senior stakeholders, and ensure seamless integration of cross-functional projects. You will also champion continuous improvement and innovation across the portfolio, contributing to tangible benefits for both the Council and residents. **About You** To thrive in this role, you will need: - Proven experience in setting up and managing portfolio, programme, or project offices at a strategic level. - Strong knowledge of portfolio management methodologies and experience in delivering complex change initiatives. - Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with senior leadership and external stakeholders. - A track record of delivering results in a high-paced, dynamic environment, with a passion for public service improvement. - Experience in programme and project management frameworks such as Prince2 or Agile is essential, and local government or public sector experience is desirable but not mandatory. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock.
