Nottingham, United Kingdom YMCA Robin Hood Group Full time

YMCA Robin Hood Group believes everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become. As a not-for-profit operator, we put the needs of our children above profits and are proud to operate Ofsted registered homes that regularly receive good and outstanding ratings across all areas.

We operate several trauma informed, therapeutic residential care homes for children aged 5 - 17 across Nottinghamshire and East Riding, providing these children with the very best chance of discovering who they can become.

We are looking for Residential Therapeutic Care Workers who share our passion for giving children the very best care, support and therapy during their time with us to ensure they leave our care ready to live an independent, positive life.

But life in a therapeutic home is more than this. This could be the next step in your career if you are looking for a role where you can:
Objectively make a difference to a childs life
Expand your knowledge and understanding of therapeutic care
Learn trauma informed psychological interventions

Based on trauma informed interventions, you will be trained in therapeutic techniques allowing you to support our children better than ever before.

If you share in our belief and want to be part of a childs life, helping to support and shape their future utilising trauma informed, therapeutic interventions (that we are happy to teach you), please read on

With a minimum of four months previous experience in a residential or educational setting, you will work with our Clinical and Management team and will be supported through an intensive training programme, continuing in the home, where you will learn to deliver therapy to the children in your care through key working sessions, daily life and through any time they are in crisis.

We are dedicated to this style of care and have seen the positive outcomes that providing therapy to children in residential care can bring to their futures.

Working as part of our structured team, you will be supported by Team Leaders, Deputy and Registered Managers as well as our Management and Clinical team. A strong, supported staff community is the first step in creating an environment where the child feels safe.

You will work with the young people in our care from the everyday tasks such as personal care, going to school and having fun games form the basis of everything we doeven the toughest conversations and therapy sessions are made easier by turning them into a game

You will also be there to support young people when they are in crisis. Using the theories you have learnt, you will be able to support children as they regulate and support them to keep them safe from harm using a wide range of techniques and practices. This might mean sitting with a child through that crisis for hours, however your dedication to your role and to that child means you do this without a second thought.

Having the child at the centre of all we do is critically important to us; we involve the child in their care plan, their risk assessments, their communication plan. We listen to the children about how they want to be cared for and work with them to create a world in which they feel safe and have their basic needs met. It is on this basis that we are able to move forward and start to heal some of the trauma that they have experienced.

You will share our ideas and theories that by putting the child in control, they can thrive. Everything we do is strengths based and person-centred. Working in conjunction with all the agencies, schools and other 3rd parties involved in a childs care, you will reinforce these messages and advocate for the best interest of the child.

Meals are provided while on shift where we encourage you to enjoy preparing and sharing a meal with the children, as well as going on trips, activities and holidays with the children, specific to their needs, interests etc.

The Logistics

You will work on a rota for your home, working on average 40 hours per week. Alternative working patterns will be considered if these are not suitable. This does include days, evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Overtime is available both within your home and to provide cover within other homes too. Lone working may be required including night awake shifts.

Our salaries are made of:
Your base salary is a minimum of £25,500 £26,500 dependent on the level of therapeutic care required. We also offer Performance Related Pay (PRP) of up to £2,500 per year as we want your contribution to be rewarded accordingly.

Sleep ins are paid at £45.00 per sleep in. which could result in £6,525 per year (*based on the average number of sleep in's per month for a 2 bedroom home)

We will support you to achieve your level 3 and 5 Diploma in Residential Care qualifications and maximise your potential within the Childrens Residential service.
