**About the role**
We have an exciting opportunity to lead our Pavement Assets consultancy team. We are looking for a dynamic leader to help shape and drive the team to achieve TRL’s business objectives in three key areas:

- Grow TRL’s consultancy business in Pavement Assets research to contribute to the bottom line

- Develop the sales and technical solutioning competency of your team to ensure TRL continues to develop innovative solutions that meet clients’ needs and anticipate the market to take transportation into the future

You will foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in your team, and inspire and motivate your team to develop TRL’s Pavement Assets capabilities focused on the techniques and best practice for the maintenance of pavements assets. Providing expert consultancy to help clients make evidence-based decisions to increase the lifetime of their assets.

Day to day tasks will include line managing 8-12 people, including resource management, talent management and performance management. You will right-size TRL's sellable capabilities in your team by identifying on-the-job training / external training / recruitment needs; and developing and actioning a realistic, financially astute plan to achieve these. You will be a driven all-rounder who is motivated by having a diverse range of activities in their day-to-day role, including project delivery, bidding and team & people management, who is able to problem solve quickly and effectively, and who is able to prioritise their time in line with business needs. Most of all, this role will suit someone who has vision and ideas, and the dynamism to action them with your team.
**Key duties / Responsibilities**
- Create and nurture a culture of trust and accountability within your team, ensuring that all individuals understand how their roles contribute to delivering to the company Mission and Vision

- Contribute to sales and technical content for tenders. Take responsibility for the bids led by your team and ensure they are appropriately resourced with the right team for a winning, efficient, strategic and technically strong approach.
- Effectively manage staff performance and talent in your team ensuring all staff have meaningful objectives against TRL’s values and Strategic Plan. Measure and manage individual objectives so they are met, and manage talent and performance appropriately.
- Effectively communicate to your team and to senior management
- Ensure, through adequate controls and review procedures that technical delivery is on time, within budget constraints and the technical quality is at a sustainably high level without over-delivering beyond the project scope.
