**About us**:
The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute (HCI) is part of the UCL’s Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS). The HCI is internationally renowned for its pioneering research investigating ways to protect the ischaemic heart from injury and continues to lead research in the areas of cardioprotection.
**About the role**:
Applications are invited for a 1.0 FTE Research Fellow post funded by a 2 year British Heart Foundation grant, investigating the cardioprotective effects of targeting mitochondrial dynamics in chronic kidney disease. The Research Fellow will undertake investigation into the causes of the imbalance in cardiac mitochondrial dynamics in a CKD model, explore the downstream events, and elucidate the contribution of this imbalance to the aggravation of inflammation and MI. The ultimate goal of the study is to identify novel cardioprotective targets and also investigate innovative therapeutic options for the treatment of MI in the setting of CKD.
**About you**:
- Strong background in either Cardiovascular or Renal Physiology and Biology/Cell Biology/ Molecular Biology. Experience in conducting in vivo rodent studies using surgical techniques (non-recovery and recovery).Experience with molecular biological techniques (eg: Western blotting, in situ hybridisation, PCR, qRT-PCR, plasmid construction, transfection, transduction). Ability to work both independently and effectively within a collaborative environment
