Midwife - Triage/midwife Led Unit

Midwife We are pleased to announce that we have a new and exciting job opportunity within our Maternity Unit "An 8-4 pm Maternity Triage Midwife" We are looking for an experienced midwife with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience, who is confident in his/her ability to communicate and advise women effectively on the Triage phone line to join our team. As part of our professional, compassionate and friendly team you will be responsible for answering calls from the women of Berkshire, listening to their stories, advising them and signposting them to the most appropriate area for assessment to ensure the care they receive is both safe and effective. The role will involve working flexibly between the triage phone line and the Midwife Led Unit. This will include triage assessments, supporting women in early labour and the immediate postnatal period. Flexibility in the hours can be considered for the role. We are looking for a midwife that has excellent communication skills and has the ability to work well under pressure and to prioritise workload when the triage phone line is busy. The applicant will be responsible for updating and maintaining communication in all areas of maternity to ensure the service runs effectively and efficiently. The applicant will also be responsible for maintaining excellent communication during a BBA, deploying the relevant staff to attend, and out of hours being a point of contact to support safety for the homebirth team. The applicant will work with the Ward Manager for Triage and the alongside midwife led unit to develop the service as required. Communicate with patients and callers at their level of understanding, culture and background. Remain courteous and professional at all times. 2. Initiate appropriate action, utilising appropriate resources based on the telephone discussion with the caller. 3. To collect, analyse and utilise patient information from the patient’s history, laboratory results to assist and identify relevant problems. This will ensure that women are triaged to the most appropriate area to ensure safe and effective care. 4. Maintain required standards of clinical competence and qualifications. Have an up to date knowledge of current policies to ensure women are provided with evidence based guidance, to utilise their acquired skills in mental health, safeguarding and medication enquires. 5. To have working knowledge of the electronic systems used by the department and the Trust 6. To maintain accurate, detailed and contemporaneous records of all phone calls and patient enquiries to the Triage/Labour line. 7. To use complex communication skills including the use of language support services as necessary. 8. To maintain excellent communication with the unit coordinator and delivery suite coordinator to enable the workload within the unit to be prioritised and coordinated efficiently 9. To maintain communication on BBAs/Homebirths in progress with the Homebirth Team/Community coordinator 10. To document on the oncall board who is on duty for the night shift for the homebirth, community, maternity support worker, hospital midwife and manager oncall. 11. To have knowledge of the Escalation and Unit Diversion protocol and know how to implement the process if instructed to do so and to complete the correct documentation required for the process. 12. To work within scope of practice seeking support where appropriate 13. Demonstrate that women and their partners / relatives where relevant are involved in bothdecisions affecting their care and wellbeing, and in service development. Practice inaccordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and Trust’s protocols and guidelines. Be accountable for own practice 14. Prioritise workload to meet targets. Be able to work under pressure and seek creative solutions to challenges. 15.
