Maternity Support Worker

The Continuity of Carer team has been established within our Maternity service since 2019. We are now offering a new and exciting job opportunity for a band 4 maternity support worker to join our team for a one year secondment
The team consists of Midwives who aim to provide continuity of care for women and their families on their journey into parenthood. Each Midwife has a small caseload and aim to see women/birth people throughout their antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period. The team work to improve women’s/birth people's experiences and health outcomes. Studies have shown that Continuity of Carer teams prevent stillbirth, preterm birth, reduce interventions and improve the overall experience.
As well as improving experiences for women/birth people, the Continuity of Carer model provides increased job satisfaction for staff and some flexibility within the working week.
The team are looking for a Maternity Support Worker to work alongside the Midwives to deliver care to women/birth people, as well as help to improve and develop the service.
- Working alongside midwives to run the day to day work and activities.
- Provide postnatal care to women/birth people with additional care needs, parenting skills
- Support the service with Day/Night oncalls.
- Develop the team and services that are offered.

- The post holder will provide support to the maternity team, mothers
and their families. He / She will carry out assigned tasks involving
direct care including information giving, guidance and reassurance,
assistance and support to women/birth people and their families to improve the
quality of care as planned by the midwife.
- The post holder will be required to attend as second attendant at
homebirths and provide out of hours postnatal support to women/birth people at home as required. As such will be required to cover on call rota as per service need.
- The post holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary
team in order to support and assist women and their healthcare
journey.
- The post holder will contribute to practice developments within their
area of work in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and
guidelines.
- Reviewing of Midwifery teams diaries within Blossom Team
- Review all referrals and respond to them.
- Allocate workload and new referrals to the team
- Provide PN care to women/birth people that have additional care needs,
parenting support
- Plan Postnatal visits
- Ensure referrals to other MDT are completed.
- Support and teach in antenatal education sessions.
