**Specific duties of this post**
Manage and promote the Release governance across Business Systems directorate and provide advice and guidance on the process
Manage the FSR, ensuring it is up to date and available for all stakeholders, including Change Management to aid planning enterprise wide
Manage release checkpoints, ensuring releases are assessed for impact technically and are fit for release to the controlled test and pre-production environments
Manage the Maintenance Release process ensuring that releases are planned, tracked, assessed and signed off through test to production and managing associated tooling
Chair & minute Release Initiation Meetings ensuring attendance by the key stakeholders and clarity of plans and actions
Manage, coordinate and deploy releases across the controlled test, pre-production and production estate ensuring the appropriate resource is in place and communications are issued to relevant stakeholders
Work with the platform services team on the availability of environments for deployment of releases to build out or deploy for project and confirm software baselines
Manage the Release Tracking tooling to ensure that all deployments are tracked and recorded and available for audit purposes
Define and provide reporting and metrics around release management, highlighting trends and issues that require resolution as well as achievements
Ensure configuration management standards are being adhered with regards to naming and version control methods
Develop, document, maintain and where applicable suggest improvement to Release Processes, procedures and work instructions and standard deployment operating procedures
Manage and maintain the Release and Deployments Mailbox, escalating any issues that require assistance to the Release Lead
Conduct and create Post Implementation Review reports for failed or backed out releases, driving forward improvements and lessons learned
Represent Release Management at Change Advisory Boards, Project team meetings and LRR meetings
Define and document the processes, policies and procedures required as well as agree the interfaces with the other Business Systems areas that will use or interface to
Chair and manage the LRR process in the Release Leads absence
Section 3 Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience
As a minimum, post holders will need to hold a qualification in IT equivalent to SCQF Level 8 ideally of an IT Service Management nature (ITIL foundation 3 minimum, for example) or equivalent and/or be able to demonstrate significant relevant experience inthe IT Service Management arena
Ability to work on own initiative
Be an effective verbal and written communicator
Be able to analyse and interpret a range of information of varying complexity
Have experience of scripting and deploying releases both manually and using deployment tools (in particular TFS)
Experience of Defect Management tooling (in particular ALM)
Familiarity with Source control tooling and its uses as well as version control and naming conventions (GIT)
An ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
Significant experience of working in stressful or pressurised situations and to changing deadlines
A high level of literacy and numeracy skills
Strong, well defined communication skills, both written and spoken
Excellent negotiating, influencing and mediation skills
Good organisational skills and a methodical approach
