**JOB TITLE: Visitor and Education Assistant**
**RESPONSIBLE TO: Visitor Experience Officer**
**RESPONSIBLE FOR: Supervising volunteers and zero-hour staff**
**OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB**
Our Visitor and Education Assistant will deliver a portfolio of established and popular visitor offers including school education sessions, school holiday activities, Sunday open days and key public events. With an interest in, and understanding of, the importance of urban nature and Sheffield Manor Lodge’s rich Tudor history they will take a personal interest in bringing Green Estates stories and experiences to life for our visitors.
**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Create resources, support planning, and deliver a year-round programme of school holiday sessions, and outdoor family discovery activity, ensuring all volunteers and material resources are booked and in place
- Deliver the Education programme to KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4 pupils
- Deliver Sunday open days at the Discovery Centre throughout the main visitor season (April - September inclusively)
- Run the Discovery Centre front desk providing a welcome point for visitors and manage the small kiosk including till work and serving teas and coffees
- Ensure all programmes are delivered at the required level and that quality standards are maintained.
- Lead and assist informal education activities including uniformed groups and birthday parties
- Liaise with teachers, the general public and education volunteers as required including the use of social media, CRM systems and other admin functions.
- Support with administration duties such as invoicing and booking forms.
- To provide supervision for on-the-day volunteers and externals
- To ensure that premises are opened / closed, secure, prepared, and ready based on operational requirements
- To be a named First Aider
- To maintain appropriate on-the-day monitoring of e.g., visitor numbers / feedback and reporting of any incidents, accidents, and emergencies as appropriate
- To undertake any training as necessary in order to deliver this role effectively
- To ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with company policies and procedures
- To undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade of the post
**Person Specification**
**ESSENTIAL**
- You will have experience in delivering educational activities to children and young people, ideally in an outdoor setting
- A displayed enthusiasm and passion for communicating nature and heritage stories across a range of audiences in creative and engaging ways
- Experience in creating resources to support engagement activity
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and provide practical solutions to improve basic operational functions
- You will be a great team player but are able to work independently using your own initiative.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach to provide a high-quality customer experience at all times
- You will have experience of supporting others for example, volunteers, to maintain high standards of the customer experience
- The ability to multi-task and prioritise workload effectively.
- You will be experienced and confident in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
**DESIRABLE**
- Full driving licence with business insurance
- Experience in working in the environmental and / or heritage sector
- Experience in line management of staff or volunteers
- Experience of working in a customer facing role including till work

**Job Specification**
**SALARY**:£19,500 to £22,000 pro rata
**CONTRACT**:Permanent
**FREQUENCY OF PAY**:Monthly (on 25thof the month)
**WORKING HOURS**: 22.5 hours per week. Sunday working required April-Sept with other occasional weekend work throughout Winter. There will be occasional evening and weekend work and where necessary flexible working and time in lieu (toil) systems are in place.
**LOCATION**:Green Estate site, Manor Lane, Sheffield, S2
**PROBATIONARY PERIOD**:All new employees are required to undertake a period of probation for 6 months, in which they are expected to establish their suitability for the post. This period may occasionally be extended.
**ANNUAL LEAVE**:31 days per annum pro rata (including bank holidays)
**DBS DISCLOSURE**:Enhanced DBS check required
