**Job description**:
Border Force Central Region covers a large geographical area of central and eastern England, stretching from the Thames estuary in the south across to the east coast ports and as far north as East Midland’s Airport near Derby.
The Border Force Operation in Central Region comprises approximately 1250 staff and includes aviation, maritime and postal operations; but also includes the regional mobile command teams at all Central Region Border Force locations and general aviation and maritime duties at other sites.
Central Region Tactical Operations Command (CRTO) is an integral part of Border Force Central Region, employing over 100 staff at different grades across the region, with sites at Felixstowe, Harwich, Tilbury, Coventry, Birmingham, Luton, and Stansted. It holds responsibility for regional resource and support, including Regional Command and Control, Tactical Response Teams, and Dog Teams. The Business Support Unit provides essential services to all these business areas, enabling them to undertake their vital roles daily.
As the Officer, you will deliver a day-to-day support service for the regional front line. You will progress customer requirements through appropriate channels to ensure their requirements are progressed, chasing for updates, and reporting back. You will have a good understanding of customer service and your role and responsibilities for the customer. You will maintain networks with appropriate colleagues to support customer service and to help gather and support the action on feedback as required.
You will input actions required and ensure you participate in all team outputs to affect a robust customer service provision of the region.
You will provide support and inputs to processes for the leadership and their line management within your team. You will be able to input staffing requirements in relation to their workload, and you must also be able to support wider change in your team.
You will play a key role in identifying process gaps or issues to support continuous improvement to systems and processes in your team. You will often be empowered to use your own judgement before deferring to a manager to rectify any issues that arise. You will make some decisions independently, within the scope of your well-defined responsibilities.
You will be required to consider and be able to provide evidence in support of your decisions.

**Responsibilities**
You will be required to:
- Collate and prepare data for planning & performance meetings, including preparing reports and presentations.
- Be responsible for collating regional statistics and identify shortfalls in staffing numbers and work with other departments to fill gaps.
- Handle infrastructure and fleet management for the command.
- Liaise with other stakeholders to identify training needs of staff and ensure relevant courses are delivered, management of training database.
- Be responsible for supporting teams including the issuing of security passes, booking of hotels and cars and other support as the need arises.
- Manage team inboxes, respond to enquiries, purchase equipment and order uniform.
**Essential Criteria**
- Experience of working in a changing environment and planning, collaborating, and delivering through others, to meet both short and longer-term deadlines.
- Experience working under pressure with limited supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders.
- A high level of ability in handling data, proficient user of Windows based computer systems including experience with Microsoft Excel and Teams and able to use bespoke IT systems required for role.
- Ability to problem solve, analyse the issues, prioritise, explore options, and recommend appropriate course of action.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills to ensure identification of opportunities for cost savings and providing the best value for money for the taxpayer.
- Able to adapt behaviour or work methods to minor or temporary changes affecting assignments or work schedules.
