**About the Department**:
The Campus Safety team is responsible for safety and security of the staff, students and visitors to the SOAS campus.** **SOAS University is a safe and secure campus community. We have a team of safety professionals to help us ensure our campuses provide a safe and secure environment in which world-class learning and research can flourish.
We are committed to working in partnership with University students and staff to continuously develop our service and our staff who, at a minimum, undertake considerable customer service training, as well as training in first aid, mental health first aid, and emergency evacuation including that of mobility impaired individuals.
**_About the _**_Role_**
The post holder, will assist in the day today smooth running of the safety hub, ensuring the space is tidy, free from hazards and that the area remains secure.
Duties include:
- Assisting the safety supervisor in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the safety hub and ensure the required correct and appropriate operations are followed.
- Liaising with the Police, Fire Service and other agencies as instructed and, on all issues, affecting safety of the hub area, including high profile visits and events of all types which have a potential to create safety concerns and escalating to the Campus safety supervisor where appropriate.
- Being a member of the SOAS’ emergency management team taking an administration role on safety arrangements associated with SOAS’ incident handling plans and emergency planning procedures.
- Assisting the Campus safety supervisor with investigations as may be required from time to time where the process or outcome may be particularly sensitive or have serious implications for the security of SOAS and its staff and students.
- Ensure procedures are followed for the secure control of all keys, contractors passes and cards.
- Assist the Campus safety supervisor to ensure the safety hub Operating Procedures are adhered to by all safety staff.
- Ensure that Health and Safety is adhered to within the safety hub so far as is reasonably practicable, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Complete and monitor risk assessments to meet the needs of the department ensuring these are provided to the SHEQ manager.
