Your new role

Are you motivated by identifying what is needed to be done and then making sure it happens?

Do you relish seeing how all the puzzle pieces fit together and align the 'here and now’ with the future?

Are you interested in how a company assures its performance, guaranteeing confidence behind published information?

Do you have the curiosity to get beneath metrics, an inquisitiveness to understand what is happening and probing to know more?

If yes, then this is the role for you

This is an important and exciting opportunity to work across every part of our business. Being responsible for assuring compliance and assessing the risks and issues around the delivery of our company’s obligations and performance compliance against theRoad Investment Strategy (RIS). In addition, you will also influence what the future RIS may contain and how it will be monitored.

- You will engage closely with our key external stakeholders the Department for Transport, Office for Rail and Road and Transport Focus.

With our drive for continuous improvement this is a maturing work area and specific responsibilities will develop and change over time, therefore the job holder will need to maintain a flexible and adaptable attitude and approach.

What you’ll be leading on

Whilst specific responsibilities will develop over time with continuous improvement, there are key areas pivotal to his role.
- Providing assurance of performance, process compliance and data - driving consistency and improvements in the company’s reporting of progress against the RIS and the Delivery Plan. Challenging information to provide confidence to our Executive, Audit andRisk Committee, Board and other stakeholders.
- Using analytical skills to analyse and interrogate and access technical evidence to construct written reports and presentations, to articulate assurance and delivery progress against baselines set in RIS and Delivery Plan.
- Drive improvements to the quality and consistency of processes and data, to manage performance assurance, compliance and risk.
- Developing strong working relationships with commitment owners within National Highways, to assure performance and monitor risks to delivery of Company commitments.
- Understanding the measures and targets applied to monitor the Company’s performance (i.e. Key Performance Indicators), identifying improvements and being aware of strategic influences.
- Influencing and reporting complex and technical items to our key external stakeholders; including our client the Department for Transport, our monitor Office of Rail & Road and Transport Focus our customer watchdog.
- Managing development of, and negotiating changes, to National Highways governance performance and delivery frameworks. Including updating the Operational Metrics Manual - embedding accountabilities and ensuring accurate processes are reflected, and, updatingthe Delivery Plan.

- be credible, trustworthy and respected by your peers and stakeholders.
- have excellent oral and written communication. With the ability to influence and succinctly communicate complex issues at all levels, in ways which can be understood by non-specialists and high-lights key details.
- have experience of working in a highly visible, transparent and scrutinised environment, or similar, for either a regulator or regulated/monitored company, with a knowledge of governance guidelines and regulatory requirements.
