Sainsbury’s Property division is responsible for all Sainsbury’s trading and non-trading property assets, including supermarkets, convenience stores, Argos and offices, industrial and retail depots. It all adds up to give us responsibility for the 4th largest retail estate by number of shops (Over 2,100, and still growing) and the 2nd largest by floor area.
As a Location Planner you’ll take ownership of forecasts for new stores, competitor impacts, trade transfers and input into New Store PIRs, Property Board papers and the annual PIR process for assigned geographical regions. Through analysis you’ll have an opportunity to drive improvements in Location Planning methodology and processes and support the delivery of the right investment in the business.
To be successful in this role, you’ll have excellent analytical skills and be proficient in using Excel with core knowledge of GIS functionality and system capabilities desirable but not essential.
**More about the role**:
- Produce accurate forecasts and board papers to deadlines, supporting delivery of the Property Strategy.
- Provide clear recommendations regarding the appropriate size and offer for potential new stores and extensions.
- Update competitor pipeline data on a periodic basis.
- Forecast and measure competitor impacts on JS estate.
- Support the maintenance of network plans, recommending changes as a result of competitor activity or learnings through forecasting process.
- Offer locational expertise and support to key stakeholders and other Sainsbury’s business areas.
- Build strong working relationships with Senior Location Planner and Property Development Surveyors for assigned regions and wider Property teams.
- Support Post Investment Reviews for new supermarkets, convenience and Argos stores.
- Undertake ad hoc analysis to drive improvements in Location Planning methodology and processes and support the delivery of the right investment in the business.
**More about you**:
- Excellent analytical skills. Able to synthesise and analyse a wide variety of data while keeping customer needs top of mind. Recognition that the customer is at the heart of all capital investment decisions.
- Core knowledge of GIS, e.g. functionality and systems capabilities desirable but not essential.
- Able to present analysis and recommendations in a logical, concise way.
- Ability to integrate quantitative (nectar and census data etc.) and qualitative information (retail feedback, customer research, etc.) to support investment decisions.
- Ability to challenge, stretch and develop existing methodologies and approaches beyond business as usual.
- Good planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to communicate with colleagues from different disciplines and work cross-functionally.
- Strong technical skills, especially in Excel.
- Highly numerate
- Clean driving licence
