**Role**

You will support the Hull York Medical School Departmental Management Team to develop and deliver departmental strategic plans that fulfil the Department, Faculty and University Vision. The Head of Operations will provide operational and strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of core operations in a complex operating environment working across two parent universities and in close partnership with the NHS.

You will monitor and implement effective processes and standards, ensuring the School benefits from best practice. Driving continuous improvement of services and contributing to a positive experience for our staff and students. You will be able to make informed decisions and offer guidance on a wide range of policy and operational matters, using your initiative to overcome day-to-day challenges whilst keeping strategic objectives in mind.

You will have the demonstrable ability to develop and maintain effective relationships, and to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation. Working collaboratively with the Heads of Faculty Operations, other DHFOs and colleagues across the institution, you will ensure that inter-departmental opportunities are identified, considered and managed consistently at a Faculty level. You will build effective, strong networks with partners and stakeholders including NHS partners, and NHS England.

**Skills, Experience & Qualification need**
- Knowledge and understanding of current issues in higher education
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise and communicate at all levels using tact, diplomacy, and discretion
- An ability to nurture and develop respect amongst senior academic colleagues
- Proven leadership and change management experience
- The ability to manage the performance of staff and services through direct line management and through agreement with other PSS managers
- Able to deliver change and foster a continuous improvement culture
- Ability to oversee and ensure the effective management of a large portfolio of services
- Provide effective prioritisation and oversight of the School project portfolio
- Consultative and able to influence and work collaboratively
- Able to solve complex problems
- Integrity with a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
- Experience of working within a large complex organisation
- Commitment to working across the Medical School, working in person on both campuses at the University of Hull and the University of York
