This is an exciting opportunity for a well-organised and professional individual to join our team to support our work with young LGBTQ+ people facing homelessness. You will need excellent communications skills, be highly organised and have the ability to balance a varied workload in a fast-paced environment to a range of co-workers. The role is 20-21 hours per week, worked over 3 or 4 days.
**ABOUT US**
akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Currently 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender, and 77% cite abuse and rejection by their families after coming out as the primary reason for seeking help. The charity was founded in 1989 and operates service centres in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and works online through a digital service providing support and opportunities for e-mentoring across the UK. In 2012, akt opened the UK’s first emergency safe house for young LGBT people in the UK. akt works with over 2,000 vulnerable young people a year providing both face to face and online assistance.**Job Summary**
**Key Responsibilities**
- Be responsible for accounts payable activities including processing invoices, reconciliation of supplier statement and dealing with supplier queries
- Liaise with the services administrator to ensure correct authorisations
- Processing of sales invoices and chasing of payments in accordance with procedures
- Analysis, recording and reconciliation of all company credit cards
- Assist with the posting of fundraised income
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash for each office, liaising with designated staff member in each city
- Monitor finance inbox, dealing with internal and external queries
- Perform other duties as assigned commensurate with the role.
**Person Specification**
**_Essential Skills_**
- Knowledge of cloud-based finance systems (we currently use Quickbooks) and Microsoft Office 365 software, especially excel
- A strong eye for detail
- Able to use initiative, demonstrate problem solving and redirect queries accordingly
- Highly organised with ability to work efficiently, accurately and at speed as necessary
- Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
- capable of working as part of a team and autonomously
- Strong willingness to learn
**_Desirable Skills_**
- Interest in and awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and a commitment to working to meet the charity’s objectives
- Demonstrable experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role
