Smith’s Garden Centre, now in its 4th generation, is a growing, independent garden centre focused on excellent quality plants and expert gardening knowledge. As a family business, established over 80 years ago, we are passionate about delivering a great experience for all of our customers.

We are now looking for two Plant Area Assistants to join our friendly team. This is an active, outdoor role for someone enthusiastic and knowledgeable about gardening, plants and great customer service.

You will be required to:

- Report to the plant area manager
- Maintain high standards of plant health of both indoor and outdoor plants
- Watering of both indoor and outdoor plants
- Maintaining the housekeeping standards throughout the plant area
- Offer advice and help to customers
- Work as part of a team to keep Plants Goods In tidy
- Liaise with the nursery team to bring home grown stock into the centre
- Receive and process plant deliveries
- Create and maintain plant displays
- Ensure the plant area is stocked up
- Create pots & planters for customer sale
- Assist with any plant related enquiries in store and via telephone
- Occasional use of the EPOS system for inputting new plant stock
- Occasional use of the HLS system for creating and printing labels for plant stock
- Lift compost for customers on occasion
- Serve customers on the till on occasion
- Work Saturdays as part of the working week

**Working days will be as follows**:Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday

**Working hours are as follows**:Tuesday to Friday - 8:30am until 5:00pm with one hour unpaid break. Saturday - 9am until 5:00pm with one 30 minute unpaid break.

**Job Type**: Full-time, Permanent. Hourly Rate: To be discussed on interview (dependent on knowledge and experience) Working Days: 5 days a week including one weekend day. Holiday: 30 Days April 2025/26

**Experience**:Retail experience preferred but not essential. Horticultural experience preferred. Interest in plants and horticulture is essential.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
