**Job Description**:
UKAEA’s mission is to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximise scientific and economic benefit. UKAEA is at the heart of the UK Governments Fusion Strategy and its successful delivery.

The Head of the Executive Office, Strategy and Governance will play a central role in shaping the future of the organisation, supporting the CEO in all of their duties across the full UKAEA group, comprising the Public Sector Research Establishment (UKAEA) and the STEP delivery body (UK Industrial Fusion Solutions). The jobholder will work across all aspects of the organisation when delegated to do so by the CEO, and at all times will take the lead on issues concerning:

- Provision of policy, strategy and technical advice to the CEO and Executive Directors across a broad range of issues to enable the organisation to fulfil its mission.
- Coordination of future business scenario planning and strategy development
- Development of the corporate plan, future strategy documents, business case development etc to ensure the Authority meets it mission.
- Sponsorship of UK Industrial Fusion Solutions
- Managing the secretariat functions to the UKAEA Board, UKIFS board and UKAEA Executive

The Head of the Executive Office, Strategy and Governance directly manages ~7 direct reports. Whilst they have only limited direct budget approval up to ~£1M p.a., they will influence securing funding across the full organisation with turnover of ~£400M p.a.

**Qualifications**:
Essential
- Ability to deputise for CEO in various policy environments
- Ability to interact influentially in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural, multi-level environments, including suitable methods of challenging the work
- Experience of contributing to the development and delivery of organisational strategy.
- Excellent understanding of the wider issues impacting the UK economic growth
- Good networking skills with experience of building and maintaining stakeholder relationships to deliver organisational benefits.

Desirable
- Background in the UK and EU science community with technical, financial and political acumen
- Experience of management of large programmes (~£M)
- Experience of writing public sector policy
- Experience of managing scientific and engineering teams
- Degree and significant experience within scientific or engineering related discipline
- Experience of stakeholder management with government, industry and academia, preferably in the engineering sector
