**Job Title**: Consultant Cardiologist (Locum)

**Duration**: [ 3-12 months, extendable]

**Hours**: Full-time / Part-time / On-call as required

**Reports to**: Clinical Lead / Head of Cardiology Department

**Job Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide expert clinical care in cardiology, including the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with various cardiac conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular heart disease.
- Perform and interpret advanced cardiac investigations, including echocardiography, cardiac catheterisation, stress tests, ECG, Holter monitoring, and other relevant diagnostic procedures.
- Manage acute cardiac emergencies, including myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and heart failure, working collaboratively with the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, and Intensive Care Unit.
- Conduct outpatient cardiology clinics, providing specialist assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up care for patients with complex cardiac conditions.
- Lead cardiology ward rounds, supervising the management of inpatients and providing specialist advice to junior doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in the on-call rota, providing emergency cardiology cover and expert consultation for other medical teams as required.
- Contribute to the development of clinical pathways, protocols, and guidelines to improve patient outcomes and the quality of cardiac care provided by the department.
- Engage in clinical governance activities, including audit, quality improvement initiatives, and adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Support and supervise junior doctors, specialty registrars, and allied health professionals, providing teaching, mentorship, and leadership within the department.
- Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and clinical handovers to ensure continuity and high standards of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiac surgeons, specialist nurses, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals, to deliver comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Contribute to research, clinical trials, or other academic activities related to cardiology, where applicable.

**Essential Qualifications**:

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
- CCT in Cardiology or equivalent recognised specialist qualification.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) or equivalent.
- Proven experience working at a Consultant level in Cardiology, including the management of complex cardiac conditions.

**Skills and Experience**:

- Extensive experience in clinical cardiology, including advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Proficiency in echocardiography, cardiac catheterisation, and the interpretation of complex cardiac investigations.
- Strong clinical leadership skills with the ability to manage acute cardiac emergencies and provide expert consultation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrable experience in clinical governance, including involvement in audits, quality improvement projects, and adherence to clinical protocols.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage a busy caseload, and make sound clinical decisions.

**Desirable Qualifications**:

- Subspecialty interest or additional training in areas such as Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, Imaging, or Cardiac Devices.
- Previous experience in research, clinical trials, or contributions to cardiology publications.
- Previous NHS experience or familiarity with NHS systems and protocols.

Pay: £85.00-£125.00 per hour
