This is an exciting opportunity for doctors who wish acquire a training number in Medicine and have gained their full MRCP but wish to acquire additional skills and experience whilst working as a medical registrar. They are also ideal for those who are coming to the end of their IM3 year, or simply looking for a post outside of training for a period.

The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake audits, to be involved in governance activities and to take part in service improvement projects.

This is a service post so does not have educational approval, but successful applicants will be provided with excellent training and educational opportunities, tailored to meet individual needs. Where service provision allows, successful applicants are encouraged to attend educational teaching sessions.

**_ Main duties of the job:_**
- To build upon postgraduate clinical experience a
- To develop further expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient
- To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission, the development of strategies which might provide an alternative to admission and identifying where early discharge would be safe and appropriate
- To further develop skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation, and rational prescribing
- To master several procedural techniques
- To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues
- To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities.
- To increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, makcing decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available at all times

**_Essential Requirements:_**
- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC registration with Licence to Practice
- Full MRCP
- Full ALS
- Good and wide-ranging recent experience of clinical medicine in acute inpatient setting in a large acute hospital
- At least 12 months UK experience at Registrar level
- Geriatric experience at least foundation and CT level
