**About the Group**
**Financial Stability Group**
The Financial Stability Group advises government on ensuring the stability of the UK financial system and through that the stability of the UK economy. We monitor new and existing risks to the financial stability of the UK and the global financial system, taking action to mitigate risks and combat these when needed.
We intervene directly to manage any public support for the financial services sector - including stewardship of (and exit from) the government’s interests in NatWest Bank.
We’re also responsible for ensuring that the financial authorities have the appropriate legal powers and resources to deal with future failures in the financial sector, as well as planning for future stability events.
The Group works with the Bank of England, the Prudential Regulation Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority, the intelligence agencies and international partners, to develop and maintain systems to monitor assess and deal with financial stability risks
**About the team**
The Resilience and Resolution (R&R) team works with the Bank of England, Prudential Regulation Authority, Financial Conduct Authority and other Government Departments to identify risks to the financial sector, develop policies and plans to mitigate and respond to those risks, and leads the Treasury’s response to financial sector crises and operational disruption. We are a fast-paced, exciting team with significant exposure to ministers and senior officials.
Within the R&R team, the Contingency Planning Unit works with the Bank of England and the regulators to coordinate the cross-authority response to failing financial services firms. The Unit works with other teams in the Group and across HMT to plan for market-wide stresses to individual firms.

**Key accountabilities**
Do you want to help protect financial stability in the UK? We are looking for two people to work as Policy Advisers in the International Banks branch of the Contingency Planning Unit
The UK is a global hub for financial services and there is strong international presence in our banking system. The postholders will work on HMT’s planning for the failure of international banks operating in the UK, collaborating with a wide range of partners and advising ministers to deliver this shared priority.
