Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) in Whale Island, Portsmouth, is the nerve centre of the Naval Service. It upholds operations around the globe and provides the ships, people, aircraft, and equipment to deliver the UK’s defence policy.

NCHQ supports all the Royal Navy’s activities, from front-line operations to personnel support and training; finance and governance; safety; equipment acquisition; programmes and planning; and Defence Engagement.

**Job description**:
The People and Training Directorate (P&T) of Navy Command has responsibility for the lived experience of all our people; governing areas including recruitment, training, career management and frontline HR services. P&T’s Sub-Portfolio Team retains skilled practitioners in fields including Benefits Management, Programme Controls and Change Management (CM) to assure successful delivery of our Portfolio.

Core activities include:

- Delivering change activity (includes communication plans, profiling stakeholder resistance, assessing readiness to change, and identifying impacts from change alongside suggesting mitigation measures).
- Providing tailored guidance for the delivery of CM in a project environment.
- Conducting reviews of projects and programmes to assure the change is being handled effectively.
- Upskilling project members in CM skills and competencies.

**Person specification**:
This role is knowledge-based; our practitioners must hold a strong understanding of the principles and theory of CM so they can craft a tailored approach or provide specialist advice for varied initiatives. Knowledge areas include Project Management, Psychology, Organisational Leadership and Planning.

To support this: our team operates with a continuous personal development ethos; providing time and support to enhance our skill sets and knowledge base to ensure we're effective in our roles. In addition to the training and development provided on joining, self-study will be a core task for which time will be made available.

Additionally, this role operates in a highly flexible and political environment, so situational awareness, building networks, influencing stakeholders, and working with tact and care is of the utmost importance. Our ability to build and maintain relationships, is fundamental to what we do.
