To be responsible for internal Health and Safety in the Council's buildings and responsible for maintaining health and safety documentation and risk assessments
- Act as Safety Officer/Advisor to the Management Team of the Council, and to ensure compliance with the Council's statutory obligations under the Health and Safety at Work
- Supervise and advise on the running of the authority's staff safety management scheme and bringing to the appropriate officer's attention compliance issues
- Ensure that all staff receive suitable and sufficient training in all areas of health and safety to include a robust health and safety induction
- Organise and manage fire and emergency evacuation procedures, including coordination of Fire Marshals, as the nominated 'Fire Officer'
- Ensure appropriate fire risks are assessed and managed, mitigating measures are taken and practice drills are exercised and documented
- Assist the Council in ensuring that it meets its responsibilities under the Civil Contingencies Act
- Interpret, introduce and oversee the implementation of Health and Safety policies, procedures and protocols
- Communicate with the Management and Departmental Health and Safety Representatives and follow instruction issued by the Health and Safety Group and Management Team
- Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive, Fire Officers, Safety Advisers or other appropriate bodies
